Leila Zelman
Global Studies Portfolio
Welcome to my Global Studies Portfolio!
Hello! My name is Leila Zelman, and I am a Junior in the Global Studies Program at Watkinson School. My identity as a Jewish-American woman drives my passion for history, global issues, and learning more about the world around me. My dream is to go to college to study Architectural History and go on to help preserve our world's valuable history.

What Is Global Studies?
Global Studies is a dual diploma program for students in grades 11-12. In this program, students work on diving deep into global issues in order to become knowledgeable and active global citizens. During Global Studies students take part in seminars, attend conferences, and explore the world around them.
Global Issue Project :
The Role of Sportswashing and Geopolitics in the Sport of Formula 1
Juniors in the Global Studies program are tasked with the Global Issue project for the main research paper in their junior year. Students are tasked with finding a global issue and producing a project on their chosen issue. I chose to do my project on Sportswashing in the sport of Formula 1.
Through Classes like Urban Studies and Intro to Psychology, I have been able to conduct valuable research on topics like British Colonization of India and National Security since the 9/11 attacks. Each paper shares my in-depth research on topics I cared to learn about, whether that is through Watkinson or on my own time.
